Bob's Appliance Service, Inc. is a family owned and operated business in Rocky Mount, NC. We're proud to have served Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson, and Halifax Counties since 1986.
Bob and Jan Lane began the business we know today in 1986 in their garage as a part-time appliance service operation. Ultimately, the business grew into a full-time operation. One of Bob’s first large customers was Heilig-Meyers. In June of 1989, Bob and Jan, with young twin sons and a new daughter on the way, took a leap of faith, made a decision to move forward dedicating 100% of their time and effort to opening a store. They left two full-time jobs to open Bob’s Appliance Service at 122 Howard Street in the former Gay’s Hardware and Broughton Furniture location in the downtown area. The business was strong and delivered excellent service to its customers.
On Thursday, December 30, 2010, Bob was called and informed by his son that his business was on fire. He and his daughter rushed to the site to see the business engulfed in flames less than an hour after employees left for the holiday weekend. Shortly thereafter, Jan arrived followed by all of their employees, family and friends. While giving up would have been the easy thing to do, it was not an option. Bob and Jan assured their employees that the business would continue. Having a great group of employees and customers, business began as usual the following Monday morning. Service technicians began working already lined up calls from before the holiday. Bob and Jan’s sons bought track phones and rerouted calls from phones that no longer existed to the temporary lines. Office staff worked from home and technicians ran calls. They rented a temporary location and began modifications using all local contractors.
Three weeks later, Bob’s Appliance Service was open and operating from the Lawrence Circle location they called home for 18 months without missing a single day of scheduled work. This location offered only half the space the business was accustomed to and additional space was needed. When it became apparent that a bigger location was necessary, Bob and Jan found the new home of Bob’s Appliance Service, Inc. just down the street at 1888 Sunset Avenue. The location was completely remodeled by local contractors. On April 30, 2012, they opened for business at their new, permanent location, 1888 Sunset Avenue.
Today Bob’s Appliance Service employs five service technicians and four full-time office staff, including their daughter who is now running the business.
The business prides itself on having the largest availability of 15,000 of the fasted moving parts on the market. They also offer a large used and scratch/dent appliance showroom. They service all brands of major home appliances. They are the contracted servicer for Lowes, Frigidaire, GE, and Whirlpool. In 2011 Bob’s Appliance Service was ranked Lowes’ #2 service provider in the nation. They hope to add LG and Samsung back to the line up of in-warranty products serviced in 2023.
They primarily operate in-home service for a 4-county area of Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson, and Halifax Counties. However, Bob’s Appliance Service also offers in-shop service for customers who prefer to bring their units in to be serviced. They also offer service on a wide variety of commercial kitchen and laundry equipment.
With the support of the wonderful communities of Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson and Halifax Counties, Bob's Appliance Service not only ran full steam ahead after what could've shut them down for good, but continues to grow and flourish.

Most recently, they assisted the Nash County All-Stars in their trip to compete in the state championship. They have been involved in a major fundraising effort in support of a local citizen and his family that was severely injured and his family. The company additionally uses their marquee for promotion of local causes. Bob and Jan are very patriotic and huge Buy Local supporters.
Many may be familiar with Bob and Jan’s passion for helping out locally through their show on WHIG TV, Tech Talk. The show featured discussions that assisted consumers with tips on the service, upkeep and longevity of their appliances. They often utilize the show to focus on good causes and the importance of buying locally.
